The Nigerian army has reportedly recaptured Gwoza, which is believed to be the Boko Haram headquaters.
A tweet from the Nigerian Defence Headquaters read:
"Troops this morning captured Gwoza destroying the headquaters of the terrorists self-styled caliphate"
The Nigerian army has also said mopping-up operations are currently going on.
In the last few months, the Nigerian army launched a major offensive against Boko Haram, capturing several towns back from the Islamic militant group.
The last military briefing said that only 3 towns, including Gwoza, remained under Boko Haram's control.
The group had captured Gwoza last August, with the Boko Haram leader declaring a caliphate in areas under his control.
